How Can I Make Tournament Day Easy For Matt & Kaylee?

·       Carpool. There is literally nothing that can make this day easier for Kaylee & I. If you know you’re driving by someone else’s house & you have room, it’s a no-brainer. If you want to start making plans early to do this, post in the group & offer to drive/find a ride. The lesser cars in the driveway, yard & street the better!

·       Can’t Carpool? Get dropped off, Walk or Uber/Lyft.  An Uber/Lyft is a dependable DD when necessary! Or if you can get dropped off, or live nearby… Consider these options! Pretend you’re back in high school & have your parents bring your ass to the show.

·       Don’t Invite Others. This tournament is only for the teams in it. This isn’t a party, the extra noise & risk isn't one we prefer to take on.

·       Be On Time. The brackets are decided so be aware of where you play. If you aren't there for roll call, you may get bumped by a back-up team if I'm not in the loop on whereabouts.  Rule questions will be addressed, tournament plans will be told & the National Anthem will be sung, so please be courteous & punctual.

·       Unity. Dress like your partner. You’re a team! Have a theme! Be creative.

·       Bring Cash/Venmo/PayPal. The tournament fee is $10.00 per team & the fee for unlimited pizza between 2pm & 4pm is $12.00 per head. Those who do not have cash or Venmo/PayPal me for the entrance fee will forfeit their spot in the tournament.

·       Bring Beer & A Cooler. Your team is responsible for your alcohol because everyone has their own preference. Each game of Beer Pong requires two beers split amongst ten cups, so please bring what is necessary. DO NOT steal beer from other teams unless you are given permission. If you do not drink beer, your cups need to have another form of alcohol with equal or greater content levels. This creates an even playing field.

·       Wear Your Pizza Wristband. The wristband you receive when you purchase the $12 pizza pass is how you GET pizza. ‘Slice Of New Haven’ will be checking for wristbands at the truck, so please wear it the whole two hours. PLEASE DO NOT use your wristband to feed those who didn’t purchase one. If you are caught doing this, you will forfeit your spot in the tournament. And to be honest it's really, really rude if you do that. Shame on you.

·       Follow The Rules. There is a rule sheet for a reason, follow it. If something isn’t on there or you have a question, find our referee. If someone is cheating (A serious offense), they/I need to know.

·       Don’t Be A Distraction. If people are playing in the tournament & it’s not your turn, don’t be a distraction. You wouldn’t want someone doing it when you’re playing, so don’t do it to someone else.

·       Lose Gracefully. Some of us take the tournament a little more serious than others, but please lose gracefully. Don’t argue as rules are rules. Blaming others for playing bad & causing arguments is a waste of time. If someone is too drunk to play, they will be eliminated from competition.

·       Do Not Drive Drunk. I know some of you are “experts” & “do it all the time”, but no. Please be safe. It’s an unnecessary risk & if we carpooled/uber’d/got rides appropriately, we shouldn’t have to worry. And if worst comes to worst, Kaylee & I have adequate space for people to sleep. Just ask previous drunkards!

·       Have Fun. The older we get the less we do things of this magnitude. Try & enjoy yourself even after you lose, it’s not necessarily about winning… Well, it can be.

The Rules

BEER PONG TOURNAMENT RULES

BASICS:     WIN THE GAME BY ELIMINATING ALL OF YOUR OPPONENTS’ CUPS. CUPS ARE ELIMINATED BY SHOOTING A BALL INTO THE CUP. TO MOVE ON IN THE BRACKET, EACH TEAM MUST PLAY A 2 OF 3 SERIES. BEST 2 OF 3 MOVES ON TO THE NEXT ROUND.

SETUP:  10 CUPS ARE PLACED IN A TIGHT TRIANGLE FORMATION AND FILLED WITH BEER (OR EQUAL/HIGHER ABV. ALCOHOL). TWO PONG BALLS PER TABLE.

FILLING:  AT LEAST 2 BEERS (OR EQUAL/HIGHER ABV. ALCOHOL) ARE SPLIT EVENLY AMONG THE 10 CUPS. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE IF AUTHORIZED BY TOURNAMENT COMMISSIONER.

FIRST SHOT:  FIRST SHOT IS DECIDED BY RPS (ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS). THERE IS NO EYE TO EYE. WINNER GETS CHOICE OF BALLS OR TABLE SIDE, LOSER GETS THE OPTION NOT PICKED. TEAM THAT WINS FIRST OR SECOND GAME IN SERIES GETS THE BALLS TO START THE NEXT GAME OF SAID SERIES.

SOLO :  A SOLO IS A SHOT THAT CONSISTS OF ONE CUP STANDING ALONE BEING CALLED & SUNK A LA BABE RUTH. ONE SOLO SHOT IS ALLOWED PER PLAYER, PER GAME. IF THE SOLO IS CALLED, AND SUNK; THIS IS TWO CUPS. IF THE BALL ENTERS ANY OTHER CUP, THAT CUP DOES NOT COUNT. YOU CAN NOT WIN A GAME ON A SOLO CALL.

BOUNCING:  A BALL THAT IS BOUNCED OFF THE TABLE & INTO A CUP COUNTS AS 2 CUPS.  IF THE BALL BOUNCES OFF THE TABLE UNINTENTIONALLY, AND GOES INTO A CUP, THEN THAT CUP AND A SECOND CUP ARE STILL REMOVED.  THE DEFENDING TEAM CHOOSES THE SECOND CUP TO REMOVE. BOUNCES OFF ANY OTHER OBJECTS DO NOT COUNT AS TWO CUPS, UNLESS THE BALL FIRST CONTACTS THE TABLE AND THEN THE OBJECT.

DEFENDING:  ONCE THE BALL BOUNCES OFF ANY OBJECT, INCLUDING THE CUP, THE DEFENDING TEAM MAY SWAT OR BLOCK THE BALL FROM GOING IN. IF YOU KNOCK OVER A CUP AT ANY TIME (AND BEER IS SPILLED), THE CUP IS ELIMINATED. NO BLOWING OR FINGERING IS ALLOWED & IT WILL RESULT IN A CUP PENALTY. A GAME CAN NOT BE WON ON A SPILLED CUP, IT MUST BE PROPPED BACK UP & FILLED APPROPRIATELY UNTIL SUNK.

THE BONITO : IF THE SHOOTER MISSES A CUP & IT ROLLS BACK TO THEM ON THE TABLE, THE SHOOTER GETS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOOT A BEHIND THE BACK SHOT. IF THIS SHOT LANDS IN A CUP, IT COUNTS AS TWO. IF THE BALL ROLLS BACK ON THE GROUND, OR FALLS OFF THE TABLE IT IS A DEAD BALL.

INTERFERENCE:  IF INTERFERENCE OCCURS ON A BALL WITHOUT PRIOR BOUNCING, THEN THE DEFENDING TEAM IS PENALIZED ONE CUP. IF THE BALL IS KNOCKED AWAY ON THE FINAL CUP WITHOUT A BOUNCE, THIS COUNTS AS IF IT WERE SUNK & RESULTS IN A WIN. THE ONLY TIME THIS RULE IS NOT BE IN EFFECT IS IF IT IS USED STRATEGICALLY TO WIN, i.e. SHOT IN UNISON WITH A BOUNCE.

LEANING:  A SHOOTING PLAYERS ARM MUST BE ABLE TO CLEAR THE EDGE OF THE TABLE WHILE STANDING STRAIGHT UP. THE DEFENDING TEAM MAY REQUEST THAT THE SHOOTING PLAYER PROVE THIS BEFORE SHOOTING. KEEP BOTH FEET TOUCHING THE GROUND WHILE SHOOTING, THIS WILL PREVENT LEANING.

BALLS BACK:  IF THE SHOOTING TEAM MAKES BOTH BALLS IN TWO SEPARATE CUPS THEN BOTH CUPS ARE ELIMINATED AND THE TEAM GETS TO SHOOT AGAIN.

DEATH CUP:  2 BALLS MADE IN THE SAME CUP COUNTS AS AN AUTOMATIC WIN. SHOOTING AT THE SAME TIME IS ALLOWED ONCE PER GAME, THIS SHOULD NOT BE A REGULAR OCCURRENCE. IF ONE PLAYER BOUNCES & THE OTHER THROWS THIS DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE "ONCE PER GAME" TREE.

LIVE CUP:  IF A SHOT IS MADE IN ANY ‘LIVE’ CUP THAT HAS BEER IN IT FROM THE GAME IN SESSION (EITHER IN HAND OR ON THE TABLE), THIS IS ALSO GAME OVER.  FINISH YOUR BEERS AND THIS WON’T BE A PROBLEM. A CUP IS CONSIDERED ‘LIVE’ IF IT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY HIT AND THEN TOUCHED BY THE DEFENDING TEAM.

RE-RACK:  EACH TEAM IS ALLOWED TWO RE-RACKS PER GAME. ANY RACK FORMATION IS ALLOWED AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT EXCEED THE LENGTH OF THE INITIAL 10 CUP FORMATION. NO MID-TURN RE-RACKS ARE ALLOWED, INCLUDING THE AUTOMATIC SINGLE CUP RE-RACK.

LAST TWO CUPS:  IF THE SHOOTING TEAM CLEARS THE LAST TWO CUPS IN ONE TURN, GAME OVER AND NO REBUTTAL FOR THE DEFENDING TEAM.

LAST CUP:  WHEN DOWN TO ONE CUP AND THE SHOOTING TEAM CLEARS THEIR CUP THE DEFENDING TEAM GETS REBUTTAL SHOTS. THERE IS NO REBUTTAL IF BOTH PLAYERS SUCCESSFULLY HIT THE LAST CUP. IF THE LAST CUP IS KNOCKED OVER IT MUST BE STOOD BACK UP TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY & REFILLED APPROPRIATELY. A GAME CAN NOT BE WON ON A SPILLED CUP.

REBUTTAL:  EACH PLAYER SHOOTS UNTIL THEY MISS, ONE PERSON AT A TIME. THE SAME CUP ON A REBUTTAL DOES NOT CLEAR THE BOARD, JUST THE CUP. IF BOTH PLAYERS MISS BEFORE CLEARING ALL THE CUPS, REBUTTAL IS OVER & THE OTHER TEAM WINS.

OVERTIME:  OVERTIME IS DETERMINED BY REFILLING & REPLAYING WITH ONLY 3 CUPS ON EACH SIDE.

THERE IS NO ELECTRICITY OR HEATING UP. IF THE WINNING TEAM HAS 5 OR LESS CUPS ON THEIR SIDE, THE LOSING TEAM MUST DRINK WHAT REMAINS UNLESS SHOWN MERCY BY THE WINNING TEAM. THIS IS NOT A NECESSITY IF THE WINNING TEAM IS NOT USING BEER.
